Movie Fanfic Reviews

                                                                             The Call

This is a fan fiction of Phonebooth. It gives an extra ending to the movie. In the movie, Stu Sheppard answered a call in a phone booth and the caller threatens to kills him if he does not obey his instructions. In this fan fiction,Stu tried to make a honest living after the call from the booth. But his life became a mess and he is still afraid of the unknown caller. Then the phone rang, and the unknown caller congratulated him for quitting all his bad
habits and then killed himself with a note saying"They paid for their sins. Now it's my turn."

I like the ending in this fan fiction because there is no clear ending in the movie.  I really liked the idea that the unknown killer killed himself after all the harms he made to others. But one thing about this fan fiction is that it did not give any reason why the unknown caller called Stu in the first place and killed himself after seeing Stu made positive changes. The whole plot does not make any sense.
Happy Birthday Avery

This is another fan fiction of Phonebooth. In this fan fiction, Avery became the main character. She was at home alone on her birthday hoping that someone will call and wish her a happy birthday. The caller disguised himself as an UPS delivery man. He delivered an anonymous package to her to see her reactions. The caller did not kill her because she treated the delivery man friendly. Avery did not hung up the phone even when the caller did not response when she answered it. The caller even said happy birthday to her in the end.

This is a really simple story and it contrasts strongly to the original movie. I think that the caller will not attempt to kill Stu if he received the pizza. Just like in this fan fiction, the caller did not kill Avery because she was kind to the delivery man. But I doubt that the caller would show himself up to test someone. But it is still acceptable since this is a story that goes to a completely different direction to the movie.

Pos Question

In this fan fiction, Po had developed a relationship with Tigress. He went up the hill and met Shifu. He wanted to ask Shifu a question but he was too nervous to speak it out. After Shifu said it would be fine just to ask it, Po asked if he could marry Tigress. Shifu laughed and said of course he can. They then walked down the path together to the palace.

I liked the way how this fan fiction was written. It uses the same speaking manner for the characters as in the original film. Also adopting the same settings, it makes the story so real that it seemed like a real scene in the movie.
"Trouble? What trouble? W-who's upset? I'm not upset! Is it so hard to believe that I would want to …you know…um… meditate with my Kung Fu master…or whatever…?" He said, giving a nervous chuckle. "Maybe I just like to… uhh… chill out every once and awhile; even awesome dragon warriors have to-"
Po actually used this dialogue in the first film. So this fan fiction really caught the essence of different characters in the original film.

Sociopath
This is a fan fiction about Sherlock Holmes. Watson run out of the house after an argument with Holmes. He entered a Hanson cab and give blind directions just to stay away from Holmes. He ended up going back to where he was because he was always drawn close to Holmes. Holmes came downstairs and saw Watson. He tried to stop Watson's cab but twisted his ankle instead. Watson was worried about him and came out of the cab. When they were both back in the room, Holmes told Watson that he had read his journal about falling in love with him. Watson was annoyed and angry because his deepest secrets were revealed. Holmes asked Watson to stay and confessed that he love him as well. Watson left because he thought that Holmes is a sociopath with no emotions.

I like the idea to portray Holmes as a sociopath because he seemed to have no emotions. The language used in the fan fiction is very appropriate. It makes the story realistic. Watson had emotions toward Holmes that went beyond friendship. But he knew what is good for both of them and he walked away when Holmes said he loves him. The story had a sad ending but it makes the story more interesting because I was expecting a happy ending for this kind of fan fiction.

Reflections of an Amnesiac Fugitive

This is an additional scene from the movie. Bourne and Marie were in a Paris hotel and Bourne started to think about his past and identity. He was saved in the middle of Mediterranean sea. His memory started from there. He could not recall any of his past. There are people wanting to kill him and he had dragged an innocent girl in. He had to figure out who he was to survive. The film did not show his thoughts much. In this scene, Bourne started to gather all his thoughts and facts about himself and think about what would happen next.

This scene gave an inner view of Bourne. All those thoughts written are very appropriate and I definitely agree that Bourne would be thinking about all these. This scene is like a bonus in a movie or an interview of the character. It backs up the whole story and added more personal emotions to it. I really like the idea of writing a scene about characters' self reflecting.

TV Show Fanfic Reviews

Vampire Diaries - It's easier to Pretend

This was picked up at the end of season 2 at a place where we find Tyler at his most venerable state after learning that the one person who he considered as family, as a close mentor had been

murdered. Seeing as she was the only one that could teach him about hid abilities and culture, he is left at a place where he is extremely frustrated, emotional distraught and filled with anxiety and uncertainty of what to do next.

Caroline knowing his pain decides to act and do what she always does. Comfort Tyler. But The writer interestingly plays/flirts with the fact that both Tyler and Caroline are at a cross-roads whether to act on their forbidden love attraction, which is quite obvious to Vampire Dairies fans or just be the comforting friend that they both need at the time.

Interesting enough this spin-off was surprisingly good, I Particularly enjoyed the fact that it didn’t deviate to far off from the actual script and it was in some ways realistic and could potentially happen. I found it quite entertaining.

Teen Wolf - Counting bodies like sheep

In this fan-fiction we look take a look into the new popular rising show – Teen Wolf, the MTV adaption of the 1980s Michael J Fox original brings about a dynamic and fresh take on

the 80s classic. In this spin off we come across Derrick and Scott in a compromising position as they stand over stiles wounded body. Stiles, was caught in the line of fire assuming by the Warewolf hunters that are after Derrick and Scott. The story revolves around th

e argument of both Scott and derrick debating weather to bite stiles or not, Scott is fully reluctant to it knowing the consequence of being a warewolf and doesn’t wish that same fate upon his friend. As Derrick is the opposite, wants to bite him in order to save his life.

We see the complex situation they find themselves in with l

ittle time to think. The writer was quite descriptive and gave a realistic approach to this fan-fic. It gave me chills as began to play out the scene in my head.

Prison Break - The Arrest

Doc Lloyd Lowry or should I say former doctor. Lloyd lowery, a talented individual with an IQ of 210 who became the youngest doctor in America. Troubled with his lust for money Lloyd got caught up in world of gambling. A qualified doctor with little sense, Lowry makes his profit from giving out fake prescriptions to

customers who are most likely compulsive and addictive drug abusers.

This is a spinoff where the writer explorers the experience

of how Lowry ended up in prison. Knowing his corny character, the writer gives the readers a good grasp on what potentially happen to the young and prestigious doctor.

Nikita - The life of Roxanne Mason

Nikita, a TV action drama about a single agent raging against the covert government agency that trained her to be a secret agent but she started to feel like she was more of an assassin that was killing innocent people. she later found evidence that the agency had gone rouge. So she it becomes her mission to turn on them and put an end to it.

This fan-fic has an interesting take. it introduces a new character who could potentially add more value to the show. I like the idea of it and it create an even gr

eater twist to the storyline. but the actual story and plot itself could be more defined, as it seems to be a bit all over the place. Jumping from one thing to another without andy closure.

Alphas - My Sandra

Alphas is a TV show based on Dr. Rosen (who is a normal human) and his team of alphas - people with enhanced abilities (powers) and their efforts to protect civilization.
This fan-fiction focuses on Dr.Rosen's love life and how he is having an affair with Sandra (who is one of the alpha members in his team).
This fan-fiction is totally out of it and is not a very good take on Dr. Rosen's life. in the actual TV series Dr. Rosen is portrayed as more of a father figure to his team of Alphas, so to write about him hooking up with his co-worker won't really happen.

Anime Fanfiction Reviews

Pretèar - Princess of Leafenia

The world of Leafenia is explored following Pretèar Himeno. Weeks after her battle with Takako (the former Princess of Disaster and also a former Pretèar), Himeno is coming to terms with no longer being Pretèar for Leafenia. Her dreams are invaded by Night Shade, a servant of the Master of Shadows which leaves her lost and depressed. When Himeno begins to cut away contact with the Leaf Knights, Night Shade captures her in a vulnerable state. He uses her as a hostage in order to enrage the Leaf Knights and Defeat them. Himeno discovers new powers and is able to free herself to help protect the Knights and defeat Night Shade. Her new powers are explained by a canine character known as Wolfgang. He tells Himeno about her mother and unravels a past she knew nothing about. With Himeno's newly found knowledge, she trains to become a protector of Leafenia but during her training she is captured by servants of the Master of Shadows. Himeno is then told she must fight in order to stay alive. She defeats the first opponent but is then faced with a new opponent where the story ends with a confrontation between Himeno and the Princess of Shadows.

The spin-off shows Author, Epiphany05, has a good concept of the world in which the story takes place. It was an enjoyable read and I could find myself following the story. I did however find a problem with the structure as I found myself annoyed in which direction the story was being lead. Epiphany05 would often indicate a direction with the story and jump elsewhere by using too much information in the wrong places. This lead to some confusion at times. Otherwise I found the spin-off interesting. As was indicated this still seems to be a work in progress.

Cardcaptors - Cosmic Chronicles

It has been years since Cardcaptor Sakura held the Clow Cards but now they have been scattered over America and called Sakura Cards. Lawrence Maxwell Cathers, better known as Max, a 14 year old boy. He comes across some of the cards one day which respond to him as he is able to unlock their magical power. This meaning he has magic within him also prior to finding the cards he has dreams about them. Max meets Apollo guardian of the cards who bestows on him the role of cardcaptor to help collect them. Apollo tells Max about a dark wizard whole tried to take the cards and the battle which lead to the current predicament. Max then encounters another card and captures it with the help of Apollo

Only one chapter has been written so far but the structure of the story seems to follow that of Cardcaptor Sakura. There are many similarities within characters, such the similarities between Kero and Apollo. Though Apollo and Kero are different in gender the physical form’s the take are much the same. Also, characters such as Max's older sister seem to be very similar to Sakura’s older brother, as the two older siblings call them squirts. I found that Cardcaptors - Cosmic Chronicles was a little bit more explicit and personalised by the author but even so it felt like a remake of the original story instead of something a bit more developed.

Chobits - I am a robot

Before Elda became Chi, She was an intelligent, Knowledgeable, self learning Persocom (Robot Computer). This Fanfic is a poem that tells of her older sister, Freya and the journey of her life. The poem narrates from Freya’s point of view and the feelings and conflicts she felt within herself. She describes her love for her family and the special relationship she shared with each member. It ends with her farewells before she and her sister Elda merge to share a robotic body, waiting for someone to find and love them both.

The poem was a sweet sentiment to Freya and the story of Chobits. I like the use of the original script which was taken from the story “The town with no people”. This was a story within the Anime itself. I did find that there was repetition and that it emphasised the position of the character. Though repetition was used well it could have been used more effectively e.g. “I am a robot” could have been less frequently.
